Philadelphia Street Named After CATCH Vice Chair
On May 5, 2023, the block on Federal Street between 21st and 22nd streets was named after CATCH’s Vice Chair, Claudia Sherrod. The Ceremony, which was emceed by Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, honored Mrs. Sherrod’s lifetime dedication to the neighborhood. Friends and family gathered at the corner of 21st and Federal Streets to celebrate as Mrs. Sherrod was presented with the street sign that now bears her name.
Community leaders, residents, and peers spoke about how Mrs. Sherrod has made a difference in each of their lives by making their community a safe and nurturing environment. They espoused Mrs. Sherrod’s dedication and how that integrity led them to become better community organizers and people.
Mrs. Sherrod is a graduate of the Wharton Business School. She is the Executive Director CEO at South Philadelphia H.O.M.E.S, Inc., a housing organization that builds community through foreclosure prevention and home improvement products. She is also the President of Point Breeze Community Development Coalition, Inc which helps local businesses grow through economic and structural enhancements.
Mrs. Sherrod serves as the Vice Chair on the CATCH Board of Directors. She is also a Board Member on additional educational and civic boards that work to support communities in Philadelphia. Her guiding principles as a CATCH Board Member are reflected in the services provided by the agency.
